Bears Blank Vikings 2-0

SALEM, Mass. -- Bridgewater State recorded their fourth straight win on Saturday, defeating host Salem State, 2-0 on "Think Pink" day at Alumni Field in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's soccer action . The Bears improve to 7-3-2 and remain unbeaten in the MASCAC at 3-0-1. The Vikings slip to 2-7-2 and 1-2-1 in conference.  

How it Happened: 

  • Bridgewater State escaped an early opportunity by Salem State's  Savannah Scrodin (Bristol, Vt.), who narrowly missed putting the home team ahead with a shot that just sailed high of goaltender Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.). 
  • Twenty-six minutes into the opening period, Emily McCormack (East Bridgewater, Mass.) put the Bears on the board, beating keeper Ava Guyer (East Granby, Conn.) with a blast from 10 yards out. 
  • Bridgewater State held a 16-3 advantage in shots in the first half.
  • Later, Sydney Dewhurst (East Bridgewater, Mass.) added an insurance goal in the 62nd minute, beating the Salem State defense to a loose ball off a free-kick, that gave the Bears a two-goal lead.  
 Inside the Numbers:
  • Levesque (6-3-2) finished with four saves in goal to earn the win.
  • Guyer (2-7-2) stopped 18 shots for the Vikings in the loss. 
  • Dewhurst now sits third in the MASCAC in overall points with 18 - 5g, 8a.
  • Bridgewater State has now run their regular season win streak to nine games over the Vikings dating back to the 2015 season.
