HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After Arent got out of an early jam in the top of the first inning, Smith and Gianna Carrano (West Haven, Conn.) opened up the bottom of the inning with walks and Scwhippert drove them both in with a double down the line to make it a 2-0 game. An RBI groundout by Colleen Edwards (Clinton, Conn.) made it a 3-0 game.
  • Arent cruised through the next two innings before the Falcons took control of the game in the bottom of the third. Arent helped her own cause with a single to leadoff the inning followed by two more from Scwhippert and Carangelo to plate the first run of the big inning. Consecutive bases loaded walks and RBI singles from Gabby Rubino (Southington, Conn.) and Smith made it an 8-0 game. After an RBI groundout and a wild pitch scored two more runs, Arent came up again in the inning with an infield single to score Smith. Back-to-back doubles from Scwhippert and Carangelo capped the inning with two more runs.
  • Mass. Maritime scored two runs in the fifth for their lone runs in the game as the game was ended via the mercy rule.
