
MILTON, Mass. - Curry College swept Fitchburg State in a collegiate non-conference softball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at D. Forbes Will Field. Winning game one 2-1 and game two 3-0.
With the wins, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 7-5 on the season.
GAME ONE: Curry 2, Fitchburg 1
Curry's starting pitcher, Jillian Rogers, flirted with a no-hitter, allowing only one hit while striking out eight batters with zero runs allowed through five innings pitched to pick up her fourth win of the season. Jenelle Muñoz came in for relief in the bottom of the sixth, striking out two batters to keep Fitchburg at bay and earn the win.
Sam King and Jillian Rogers walked to put runners at first and second in the bottom of the third inning. Morgan Barmash smashed a double to left field, driving in the Colonels' only runs of the game.
GAME TWO: Curry 3, Fitchburg 0
The second game was also decided by a single inning, as Barmash picked up her second win of the season, shutting out the Faacons while allowing only two hits throughout the game. Caitlyn Wood earned the save, pitched two innings in relief, allowing no hits or runs.
Rogers doubled to left field while a walk by Barmash put runners at first and second in the bottom of the fifth. Gracie Keyes reached on an error and Natalia O'Kleasky singled through the right side of the infield to drive in the first Curry run. Karlie Pontes singled on the ensuing at-bat, scoring a pair of runs to give Curry a 3-0 lead.
Curry College opens up Conference play against Wentworth on Saturday, March 29th, with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
