Iacovelli nets five points on two goals and one assist
Paxton, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team defeated the AMCATS of Anna Maria College, 3-0 this afternoon in non-conference action from AMCAT Field.

How It Happened
Following the intermission, Fitchburg State broke the 0-0 stalemate late in the third frame as junior Grace Kerr (Holliston, Mass.) collected a feed from senior Emily Iacovelli (Northbridge, Mass.) and connected on her first collegiate tally for the 1-0 advantage.
The Falcons double their advantage (2-0) with nine minutes remaining in regulation when Iacovelli fired a shot inside the far post for her first marker on the season. Anna Maria threated in the 57th minute of action when junior Megan Sonia (West Tisbury, Mass.) registered a shot on frame, but sophomore keeper Jenna Morse (Leominster, Mass.) turned the shot aside to preserve the shutout.
The Green and Gold secured the victory with just under a minute and half remaining in the contest was Iacovelli netted her second goal of the game, resulting in the 3-0 final.
Inside the Numbers
This afternoon's contest marked the 29th meeting between the two squads in the sport of field hockey with the Falcons 17-11-0 all time when taking on the AMCATS.
Fitchburg State has won seven of the last eight matchups with Anna Maria, as the AMCATS secured a 2-1 win in the last meeting on Oct. 11, 2018.
Anna Maria finished with a 9-4 edge in shots, while also holding a slim 8-5 margin in penalty corners.
Morse stopped four shots for the Falcons in the victory, en-route to collecting her first collegiate win in the cage.
Junior Hannah Tobey (Falmouth, Mass.) made one save for Anna Maria in the setback.
