SB: Gendreau Breaks Record as Lasers Fall

Framingham, MA - The Lasell Lasers Softball team played a non-conference doubleheader at Framingham State on Tuesday, falling 11-3 and 2-1. The Lasers are now 24-14 on the season while the Rams are 26-10.

Game One

After the Rams took a 2-0 lead with runs in each of the first two innings, the Lasers took a lead in the fifth. After a walk an error, the Lasers had two runners on with one out. Brianna Gendreau struck out, but reached first on the wild pitch. Abigail Fortin and Ally Kirck both scored on the play, as the throw down to first was wild as well. Gendreau then scored on an RBI single by Katie Hopkins to give the Lasers a 3-2 lead. But it was short lived, as the Rams scored eight runs in the bottom half of the inning. They then walked things off in the sixth with an RBI single enforcing the mercy rule.

The Lasers had five hits in the game, with Katie Hopkins recording two of them. The others came from Abigail Fortin, Brianna Gendreau, and Grace Stephenson/ Gendreau's was her 57th of the season, breaking the single season record of 56 set by Jayme Rautenberg in 2007. Gendreau now has 161 career hits, just eight behind the school record of 169. Eryn Sheeley started in the circle, and went five innings. She allowed 10 hits and 10 earned runs, walked eight, and struck out five. Abigail Fortin pitched the sixth inning.

Game Two

Similar to game one, the Rams took an early 2-0 lead by scoring a run in two seperate innings. The Lasers threatened in the fourth, loading the bases, but were unable to score. They got two runners in scoring position in the fifth, but again came up empty. They attempted to score in the sixth, sending a runner home on a hit, but the runner was thrown out. In their last at bats they finally pushed a run across on a Katie Hopkins RBI single, and had the tying run in scoring position, but were unable to tie things up.

The Lasers had eight hits, with Ally Kirck, Katie Hopkins, and Eryn Sheeley each having two. Brianna Gendreau and Grace Stephenson had the other two. Meghan Theall took the loss for the Lasers, pitching all six innings. She allowed seven hits and two earned runs while striking out three.

Up Next - The Lasers will end their regular season on Thursday when they host Wentworth for their Senior Day at 3pm.
