Blazers Bested in Double Header Against Trailblazers

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Softball team fell on Tuesday night to the MCLA Trailblazers, coming up short 6-2 in the first game followed by a final of 7-4 in the second.

How it Happened

The Blazers fell after a hard fought battle against the MCLA Trailblazers who took the lead in the top of the fifth after sending home five runners.  

After the first inning the Blazers Softball team tied up the game 1-1 after Josie Cammarata () grounded out to second base to send home Courtney Shwark (). 

The Trailblazers and the Blazers didn't create much movement on the bases as the second and third inning remained scorless for both teams. 

Third baseman, E. Albright for the Trailblazers sent home their second run of the game in the top of the fourth innings with a single to the Blazers pitcher, score 2-1.

In the bottom of the fourth the Blazers had a big at bat sending home three runs and recording three hits. With two outs Kyla Cook () was able to make cconnection with a pitch, reaching first and sending home Cammarratta for their second run (Score 2-2). Playing the ball smart, Elms loaded the bases and went two consecutive at bats ending in a walk result from Courtney Schwark and Nicole DeFeo, each recording an RBI for the inning. Blazers now leading 4-2 at the top of the 5th.

In the final three innings the Blazers were unsuccessful from the plate, resulting in staying at only four runs for the game. MCLA was able to capitalize off of smart base running sending home five runners home in the fifth inning and a runner in the 6th and 7th to finish the game with 9 runs. The final of the first game of the double header was 9-4.

Jayden Dow pitched seven innings for the Blazers recording four strikeouts against the Trailblazers.

How it Happened

For the second game against the MCLA Trailblazers the Blazers rotated betwween pitchers sharing the circle between Dow, Ceara Wright() and Cook. Dow opened up for the Blazers throwing from the lanes for the first four innings, relieved in the top of the fifth inning by Wright who stayed in the circle for two innings. Finishing the game for the Lightning was the first baseman Cook who pitched the final inning letting up only one hit and one strikeout.

Both the Trailblazers and Blazers remained scoreless for the first two innings, neither teams defenses allowing a run in. 

In the top of the third with the basses loaded the MCLA was able to capitalize off of a passed ball sending home H. Peabody sending home the first run of the game. The Blazers were able to answer back with an RBI from Kelsey Bennett hitting a single to send home Schwark for the the tying run. Score after the third inning is 1-1.

In the fourth inning MCLAs' Albright was able to catch a piece of the ball sending home their second run with an RBI single. In the next at bat with a runner on second and third J. Pardi managed a sacrafice fly out to the Nicole Defeo in left field sending home their second run of the inning and their third run of the game. 

With a sacrifice fly out to center field Cook sent home the Blazers second run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. 

After the fourth inning the Blazers were only down by one with the score 3-2. It continued to stay that way till the top of the 6th when the Trailblazers were able to grow their lead by four. The Blazers finished out the second game falling to a final of 9-4 to the MCLA Trailblazers.
