Women's Basketball Falls To Rams In MASCAC Action

Harlow paces Falcons with team-best 11 points

Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University Women's Basketball team dropped an 88-46 decision to the Rams of Framingham State this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Logan Gymnasium.

How It Happened

1st quarter

Framingham State opened the contest on a 23-1 run with junior Kiara Cerruti (Canton, MA) hitting a three-ball before Fitchburg State answered on a layup from senior Caileen Hurley (Whitman, MA). The Rams upped the advantage to 27-3 as Cerruti and sophomore Ava Mckeon (North Attleboro, MA).

2nd quarter

The Rams pushed the lead to 31-3 when newcomer Faith Greene (Worcester, MA) netted a jumper, but the Falcons responded with buckets from senior Kathryn Hart (Shirley, MA) and Hurley as well as three-pointer by junior Kaelynn Tanner (Lowell, MA) to make the score 38-10.

Fitchburg State trimmed the deficit to 44-16 as senior Morgan Genness (Belgrade, ME) and freshman Ashley Hart (Shirley, MA) hit baskets before Framingham State took a 50-16 lead into the break a layup from junior Perry Reese (Windsor, VT).

3rd quarter

Following the intermission, Framingham State extended the margin to 54-19 with senior Katherine Haselton (Greenfield, MA) and junior Abigail Martin (Hanson, MA) registering buckets, but Fitchburg State answered on the three-ball from Tanner (60-24).

The visitors upped the advantage to 72-26 on a three-pointer and layup by Cerruti before the Green and Gold responded with a layup from junior Alexis DeSimone (Ashburnham, MA) to make the 72-28.

4th quarter

The Falcons cut the lead to 79-36 when senior Rylie Harlow (Hansen, MA) netted a pair of layups and two free-throws before the Rams answered back on a layup by newcomer Shaelagh Green (Haverhill, MA).

Fitchburg State trimmed the deficit to 86-44 with Harlow notching a pair of layups, but Framingham State secured the victory as Green connected on a bucket, resulting in the 88-46 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Falcons were led by Harlow with a team-best 11 points, five rebounds and two assists
  • Tanner added eight points, three caroms and one steal
  • For the Rams, Cerruti finished with a game-leading 18 points and six boards
  • Haselton chipped in with 16 points, five rebounds and one assist
  • This evening's contest marked the 79th meeting between the Falcons and the Rams on the hardwood with Fitchburg State 31-48 all-time when taking on Framingham State
  • Fitchburg State shot 15- for-66 (22.7%) from the field and (3-of-25) 12.0% from three-point range
  • Framingham State went 36-of-77 (46.8%) overall and (8-for-22) 36.4% for beyond the arc
