Blazers Takedown Rams on the Road

FRAMINGHAM, MA - The Elms College women's soccer squad used a first collegiate goal from junior Emily Maffuccio (Pittsfield, MA) with 16 minutes to play to push ahead of host Framingham State in a 1-0 non-conference victory at Bowditch Field Wednesday night. With the win, the Blazers improve to 1-1-1 on the season while the Rams drops to 0-3-0 overall.

1st Half How it Happened

The Blazers opened up with a saved shot on goal just a minute into the game with a cross from senior midfielder Kayla Pasquel (North Attleboro, MA) to sophomore forward Caroline Wolcox (Pomfret Center, CT) Despite the aggressive push of the game, the Blazers battle through the adversity. With the Rams pressing the field, junior goalie Angela Picheo (NJ) kept the match scoreless, with 3 saves going into the half.

2nd Half How it Happened

At the 47th minute mark the Blazers attempted to crack the scoreboard with 3 shots by Pasquel, Wilcox and first year forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, MA) in under just two minutes of play. The Blazers were awarded a corner kick in the 74th minute which was taken by senior forward Elaina Vilar (Watertown,CT). Vilar kicks a beautiful ball right in front of the left side of the goal where midfielder Maffuccio gets a touch on it and redirects it right above Rams goalkeeper Sarah Lutsic's head. With just a minute left in the game Picheo makes an incredible save to secure the victory over the Rams. Blazers win 1-0.
