Lancers Down Falcons in MASCAC Play

 

Worcester, Mass.  – The Fitchburg State women's basketball team dropped a 73-45 decision to the Lancers of Worcester State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Brissette Court.

How It Happened

1st Quarter

Worcester State opened the game with a 7-2 run on seven straight points from Nyah Thomas (Attleboro, Mass.). The Falcons counted with a jumper from Caileen Hurley (Whitman, Mass.) and a deep three-pointer from Allison Prentis (Mansfield, Mass.). The Lancers closed the frame with a pair of layups.

2nd Quarter

The teams traded baskets in the second quarter. Kathryn Hart (Shirley, Mass.) hit a three-pointer and had a pair from the free-throw line to make the game 34-18.

3rd Quarter

The Falcons started the quarter with an 11-3 run. Newcomer Aliza Som (Lowell, Mass.) hit a pair of layups, Juliana Davis (Templeton, Mass.) added four points and Olivia Almeida (Wilmington, Mass.) drained a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 40-31.

4th Quarter

Nine unanswered points from the Lancers pushed the score to 63-38. Kathryn Hart ended the game with a three-pointer for the Falcons

  • Almeida paced the Falcons with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Kathryn Hart chipped in with 9 points off the bench
  • For the Lancers, Abby MacDonald (Lancaster, Mass.) led the way with a game-high 18 points and 6 rebounds.
  • Worcester State shot 29-for-78 (37.2%) from the field and (3-for-22) 13.6% from three-point range
  • Fitchburg State finished 16-for-60 (26.7%) overall and (5-for-22) 22.7% for beyond the arc
  • The Lancers held a 53-43 advantage on the boards
