How It Happened

Mass. Maritime nearly took the lead midway through the opening frame when freshman Morgan Mendonca (New Bedford, Mass.) put a shot on target, but Falcon keeper Allison Gough (Wolcott, Conn.) turned the shot aside.

Fitchburg State's best scoring opportunity of the first half occurred in the final minute of play with freshman Charlotte Meixsell (Boxford, Mass.) firing a shot towards goal, only to have Buccaneers goaltender Brady Deschamps (Brewster, Mass.) deny the shot to keep the score knotted at 0-0 going into the break.

Following the intermission, the Falcons broke the 0-0 stalemate in the 57th minute of action as junior Maddie Hippert (Leicester, Mass.) collected a feed from sophomore Kendra Peretzman (Randolph, Mass.) and tucked the ball inside the right post for her third marker on the year to make the score 1-0.

Fitchburg State doubled their lead at the 75:10 mark when junior Elizabeth Read (Fitchburg, Mass.) lofted a shot into the upper left corner for her second score of the 2022 campaign with an assisted from senior Abaigeal Gilman (Clinton, Mass.), resulting in the 2-0 final.
