Kozikowski Nets Hat Trick

Buzzards Bay, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team fell 19-7 to the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Friday evening in Buzzards Bay.

How It Happened

MMA opened the scoring with five straight markers including a pair from Alyssa DiScrpio for the early margin. Sophomore Eva Kozikowski (Portsmouth, NH) put the Falcons on the board at 22:20 of the first half. Junior Madison Alves (Braintree, Mass.) had the assist. The Bucs countered with a hat trick from Ana Deely to push the lead to 12-1. Kozikowski added her second goal of the frame just before intermission.

Senior Nicole Kopacz (Tewksbury, Mass.) notched her eighth goal of the year for the Green and Gold to open the scoring in the second half. Four minutes later Alves found Kozikowski open to complete the hat trick.  

The Falcons finished out the second half with three goals down the stretch. Sophomore Grace Wetherbee (Marblehead, Mass.) found the back of the net for her first of the season, while Julia Miele (South Hadley, Mass.) and Kasey Allain (Danvers, Mass.) added goals.

  • Samira El-Hakim (Tewksbury, Mass.) had four ground balls and 2 caused turnover for Fitchburg
  • Kopacz's stat line read: goal, assist, 3 groundballs, 5 draw controls and a caused turnover in her final appearance for the Green and Gold.
  • Francesca Reyes (Malden, Mass.) stopped 13 shots for Fitchburg State in the setback.
