BSB: Lasers Drop Road Match at Hands of Framingham State

Framingham, MA – The Lasell University baseball team dropped a tough non-conference battle to the Framingham State Rams on Thursday afternoon, 8-4. The Lasers now drop to 17-8 on the season while the Rams improve to 4-11.

The Lasers got going early in this one as CJ Mills led the game off with a single. Mills stole third after he advanced to second on a Tim Callahan groundball and he eventually scored on a wild pitch to put the Lasers up 1-0. Shortly after, Ross Audet smacked a sacrifice fly to center field to score Brad Edwards. After him, Connor Freitas got up and singled to right field, bringing in Scott Lyon and giving Lasell a 3-0 lead at the end of one.

Both sides held each other's offenses to nothing over the next three innings, until the bottom of the fifth when the Rams finally got on the board. Shane Costello hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Cameron Gilroy and making it a 3-1 ballgame. Lasell responded in the top of the sixth when Callahan hit a sacrifice fly himself, scoring Dave Egan and extending the Laser lead.

Things would take a turn in the bottom of the seventh however as Costello collected his second RBI of the day on a single up the middle that scored a runner. After a walk that loaded the bases, the Rams' Jeancarlos Espinal stepped up and ripped a single up the middle to score two more runners and tie up the ballgame. The Rams weren't done yet though as Dan Frellick tripled down the right field line, clearing the bases, giving the Rams a 7-4 lead. Framingham State would grab one more run in the eighth and that would be it as they would go onto win 8-4.

Ty Lohsen got the start for the Lasers going five strong innings, allowing just three hits and one run while walking two and striking out three.

Offensively, Freitas singled twice and drove in a run, Jared Whitby doubled and singled and Mills singled twice as well. Audet also singled and drove in one for the Lasers.

Up Next: The Lasers are back at home for a doubleheader against Anna Maria at Fraser Field in Lynn, Massachusetts on Saturday. First pitch of game one will be at 12:00 pm.
