SALEM, Mass. – Salem State women's soccer secured their first win of the season this afternoon after defeating the Beavers from the University of Maine Farmington by a tally of 2-0. The Vikings' shutout victory boosted their record to 1-2 on the young season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Salem's early pressure paid off in the 23rd minute of action when Krysta Zamejtis' (Danvers, Mass.) shot found its way past the Beavers' keeper to give her squad the early 1-0 tilt.
- Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) turned away the Vikings next three shots before Brenna Paquette (Hudson, N.H.) doubled the Vikings' lead with a goal in the closing ten minutes of the first to send the game into the break with Salem up, 2-0.
- The second half would be a defensive stalemate as Gonya turned away four shots, while Ava Guyer (East Granby, Conn.) saved both shots she faced to solidify the 2-0 shutout victory for the Vikings.
