NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier women's ice hockey team suffered a 4-1 setback to Worcester St. in a Saturday night Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) clash at Conway Arena.
Prior to the contest, Rivier paused to honor its senior class and their families.
The Raiders dropped to 11-10-1 (8-4-1 MASCAC) as the Lancers jumped to 13-9-1 (10-3-1 MASCAC) with the result.
Worcester St. scored the game's first three goals over the first and second period to get out to a commanding lead.
It took until the 5:13 mark of the third period for the Raiders to light the lamp as sophomore Rebecca McKelvey buried a shot on a powerplay opportunity to give the home side some life. Despite late chances, the Lancers scored the dagger on an empty net to seal their 10th conference victory of the campaign.
Senior netminders Rachel Symmes and Rachel Hinkley split time between the pipes, with Symmes making 10 stops and Hinkley making 16 of her own. The Raiders narrowly outshot the visitors, 31-30, in the loss.
Each team scored one goal on the powerplay as the Lancers went 1-for-5 and Rivier went 1-for-3.
Rivier gears up for its Mental Health Awareness Game on Friday, Feb. 21 as the Raiders will play host to Mass. Liberal Arts in the first of a home-and-home with puck drop set for 6:40 p.m.
