Vikings Prevail 11-9 Over Leopards

BOSTON –- Laura Young scored four goals and added three assists and Jordan Turcotte chipped in with four scores as Salem State held off Wentworth 11-9 on Saturday evening at Sweeney Field. The Vikings improve to 5-2 while the Leopards slip to 4-3.
Aliviah MacCormack led Wentworth with four goals while Sydney Vega - two goals, two assists - and Anna Faberlle - two goals - contributed to the Wentworth offense.
How it Happened
- Wentworth grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first before Megan Parthum and Aislinn Bennett evened the game for Salem State. Sydney Vega's free position goal gave the Leopards a 3-2 advantage after one.
- Turcotte's two second period goals helped tie the game at 4-4. Young's second goal of the period gave the Vikings a 6-5 lead with 5:41 remaining, but Faberlle's score with 1:41 left evened the game at 6-6.
- Young and Wentworth's Shayleah Gunning-Lav exchanged goals in the third, but Turcotte put Salem State back on top 8-7 with 1:41 left in the period.
- MacCormack tied the game again for the Leopards before Siobhan Smith started a 3-0 run by the Vikings, allowing Salem State to take an 11-8 lead. Vega added another goal for Wentworth with 3:12 remaining, but it was not enough as the Vikings held on for an 11-9 victory.
- Nora Bradley (5-2) made six saves in the win.
- Hayden Saunders (1-2) stopped eight shots in the loss.
- Shots favored Salem State 30-26.
Salem State travels to UMass Boston on Tuesday, March 25 for a 3:30 pm start.
