Men's Soccer Dominates Mass. Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - The Curry College men's soccer team had its strongest offensive output in seven seasons on Wednesday evening, taking down Massachusetts Maritime Academy 8-2 in non-conference action at Clean Harbors Stadium.

With the win, Curry stays unbeaten on the season, improving to 2-0-1. Curry's eight goals was the team's highest single-game total since the Colonels defeated Lyndon State 8-0 on September 6, 2015.

The teams each scored a pair in the first half to go to the halftime break level at 2-2. Curry scored the game's first goal on a Buccaneer own-goal in the 11th minute. Just 42 seconds later, the Colonels extended the lead to 2-0 on a penalty kick from junior JD Santiago (La Plata, Md.). Mass. Maritime scored in the 34th and 42nd minutes to level the score.

A day after being named the Commonwealth Coast Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, Curry sophomore Lucas Drons (Bellingham, Mass.) exploded for four consecutive goals in a span of 15:38 in the second half to give Curry a 6-2 lead with 14:40 to play.

In the contest's waning moments, freshman Matt Angelini (Foxboro, Mass.) and junior Morgan Estrella (West Tisbury, Mass.) each scored their first collegiate goals to give the game its final score of 8-2.

In between the pipes, freshman goalkeeper Brendan Cunningham (Middletown, N.Y.) made six saves to earn his second victory of the season.

Curry will be back in action on Sunday, concluding a three-match road trip at Lasell University. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
