Baseball Drops Pair at Mass. Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – The River baseball team dropped both games of a Sunday afternoon doubleheader at Mass. Maritime at Commodore Hendy Field.

The Raiders dropped to 5-6 overall as the Buccaneers improved to 4-6.

Rivier returns to action on Saturday, March 22 for another non-conference doubleheader against Fitchburg St. beginning at noon at Michael P. Riccards Field.

Mass. Maritime 5, Rivier 2 (7 inn.)

The Buccaneers scored the first five runs of the opening game over four innings to take a commanding lead.

Rivier got on the board in the top of the sixth as senior Jacob Boudreau scored from third on a steal of second by classmate Owen Medlock.

Senior Luis Tejada scored in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly from first-year Jayce Martinez, but it was not enough to rally for a comeback.

Boudrea went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run in the setback. Sophomore righthander Jake O'Connor tossed two scoreless innings in a relief appearance, striking out one batter while allowing no hits or walks.

Mass. Maritime 7, Rivier 3 (7 inn.)

Mass. Maritime got out to another large lead in the early going, using two doubles to bring in three runs in the second before a solo homer in the third made it 4-0.

In the top of the fourth, junior Nathan Innerfield continued his successful start at the plate with an RBI double to right, cutting the Raiders' deficit to three. The Buccaneers responded in the bottom half with two additional RBI doubles to make it 7-1.

Senior JD Normand blasted a two-run homer to center field in the top of the seventh, bringing the score to 7-3. The Raiders were unable to add to their tally following the blast.

Sophomore righthander Damon Reyes pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief in the setback, fanning three batters while giving up two hits and zero walks.
