Fitchburg, Mass.  – The Fitchburg State men's basketball team downed the Bengals of the University of Maine at Fort Kent, 72-59 in non-conference action on Friday evening at Parkinson Gymnasium.

How It Happened

Sophomore Frederick Siayor (Worcester, Mass.) paced the Falcons to a sizzling 17-11 start. The guard rattled 10 of the Green and Gold's first 17 points. The Bengals settled down and countered with a 10- 4 run to knot the game at 21-21. Sophomore Nate Huynh (Houston, Texas) had four points in the mix for UMFK.

Fitchburg State extended the lead (30-21) capped by a three-point play from junior Quincy Taylor (Boston, Mass.). The Bengals stopped the run with a bucket from Jordan Guerrero (Miami, Fla.), but the Falcons closed out the frame with a pair of lay-ins from Javon Taylor (Cambridge, Mass.) and 2-points from Siayor.

UMFK's Guerrero opened up the second half with five straight points to cut the Falcons' lead to 36-28. Back-to-back layups from Siayor and Quincy Taylor forged the Falcons to their biggest lead of the game (45-39). The Bengals clawed their way back with a pair of baskets from Henrique Andrade (Primavera do Leste, MT, Brazil) and a trey from Huynh to make it a 51-42 ballgame.

The Falcons' once again responded with five unanswered points and closed out with a jumper from Dayne Allen (Revere, Mass.) to build the lead back to 62-46. UMFK had one last surge, but the Falcons finished the game with a beyond-the-arc trey from Siayor and three points from the charity stripe.

Inside the Numbers

  • Siayor paced the Falcons with 27 points, six rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Quincy Taylor finished with a double-double, 12 points, and 10 rebounds.
  • For the Bengals, Guerrero led the way with a team-high 15 points and six rebounds.
  • UMFK shot 23-for-61 37.7%) from the field and (4-for-24) 16.7% from the three-point range
  • Fitchburg State finished 29-for-65 (44.6%) overall and (6-for-18) 33.3% for beyond the arc.
