SB: Lasers Sweep Home Opener Against Lancers

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers Softball team defeated Worcester State in both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday, winning game one 6-2 and game two 5-4. The Lasers are now 7-5 on the season, while the Lancers are 8-4.

Game One

After an Eryn Sheeley single, Hopkins scored on a Grace Stephenson RBI double. Stephenson and Sheeley then scored on a Matara Tamzarian two RBI single. The Lasers then extended their lead in the second, scoring two more runs. The first came on a Brianna Gendreau RBI double, and the second on a Mackenzie Still sacrifice fly. Neither team would score again until the sixth when the Lancers scored two. But it was too little, too late, as the Lasers held on to win 6-2.

The Lasers had eight hits, led by Brianna Gendreau and Matara Tamzarian each with two. The reigning GNAC Pitcher of the Week, Eryn Sheeley, went the distance on the mound, allowing just five hits and two earned runs. She struck out 11 batters while walking none.

Game Two

They had the tying run on third in the sixth, but were unable to push it across. Despite getting a leadoff single in the seventh, the Lancers came up empty, as the Lasers won 5-4.

The Lasers had 10 hits, with Brianna Gendreau, Katie Hopkins, and Alyssa Bland each recording two. Abigail Fortin also had a hit, but her biggest contribution came on the mound. SHe pitched all seven innings, allowing eight hits and four runs. She struck out two batters while walking just one.
