Softball Struggles On The Road Against Owls

WESTFIELD, MA - On Wednesday March 26th, 2025, the Anna Maria College softball team traveled to Westfield, MA to take on the Owls of Westfield State for a non-conference doubleheader. the AMCATS lost both games 9-1 and 8-0. 

Game 1: The Owls of Westfield would jump out to a 3-0 lead in game 1.The AMCATS would find themselves with their first hit of the game off the bat of Gabby Vasquez who would double into center field. Kaitlin Melvin would go in to pinch run for Vasquez and would find herself coming home for the AMCATS first run of the game off a fielder's choice from the Owls. This would turn out to be the only run the AMCATS would muster up on the day as they suffer losses of 9-1 and 8-0. Westfield State would continue to pile on the runs against the AMCATS scoring at least 2 runs in every inning after the first. Makenna Lovelette would be the starter for the AMCATS, and she would scatter 7 hits, 5 runs and 2 walks over 3 innings pitched for the AMCATS. Mackenzie Evers would come in for relief for the AMCATS she would scatter 5 hits, 4 runs (3 earned) in 1.1 innings pitched. Emily Colp and Gabby Vasquez would get the two lone hits in game one against the Owls of Westfield. Ella Moon would get the lone RBI for the AMCATS in game one against the Owls. 

Game 2: The Owls of Westfield State would score once in the top of the 1st inning off a 2-run homerun. It would continue for the Owls as they would continue to pile on the runs against the AMCATS. The AMCATS could not find their bats against the Owls, as they would not register their first hit in game two until the top of the fifth inning. It would be Kiki Hicks who would single into right field breaking the Owls no hitter against the AMCATS. The AMCATS would leave Kiki on base and would be kept off the scoreboard the entire game as the game would come to an end. The Owls would complete the sweep over the AMCATS beating the AMCATS in game two 8 to 0. AMCAT starter Lauryn Meade scattered 11 hits, and 8 runs (5 earned) over 4.0 innings while striking out 3. Kiki Hicks would get the only AMCATS hit in game two against the Owls. 

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Friday March 28th, 2025, where they will travel to Longmeadow to take on the Bay Path University Wildcats for a non-conference matchup. First pitch is set to start at 3:00pm.
