Bleaney Leads The Charge In Lancers Defeat

WORCESTER, MA - On Saturday, January 18th the Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team hosted the Lancers of Worcester State University for a MASCAC conference matchup. The AMCATS won the game 4-3.

The AMCATS were the first on the board after Jordyn Bleaney buried a goal off a tip from Emma McGuane just under ten minutes into the first period. The AMCATS would carry their 1-0 lead into the second period with the help of Megan Tegethoff who made nine saves to hold the Lancers scoreless. 

Seven minutes into the second period, the Lancers managed to tie things up with a power play goal from Sydney Vautour. Not long after, Morgan Daly found herself off to the races taking the puck in on her own and putting it just under the glove of Maverick Margraf for the AMCATS second goal of the evening.

Leading 2-1 the AMCATS kept things going early in the third period after Carly Drew set up Jordyn Bleaney for her second goal of the evening and the AMCATS third. Almost two minutes late Drew and Bleaney set up McGuane for her first goal of the night, taking a 4-1 lead over the Lancers. With just over five minutes left to play in the third period, the Lancers managed to bury a pair of goals to cut the AMCATS lead down to just one goal however it wasn't enough as the game ended with a score of 4-3 in favor of the AMCATS.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

• This marks the AMCATS first win over the Lancers since November of 2023.
• Jordyn Bleaney has record 10 points in her last five games played(6G; 4A).

COMING UP:

The AMCATS will be back in action on Friday, January 24th where they will head to Keene, NH to take on the Owls of Keene State for a non-conference matchup. Opening puck drop is set for 7:45pm.
