Women's Basketball falls in MASCAC opener to Bears 76-42

Bridgewater, MA- The Bridgewater State women's basketball team placed three players in double figures and forced 32 turnovers as they ran past the MCLA Trailblazers 76-42 this afternoon in the MASCAC opener at the Tinsley Center.  The Bears are now 5-9 overall and 1-0 in the MASCAC.

MCLA falls to 2-9 overall and is 0-1 in the conference.

Both teams struggled to get going in this one as midway through the first quarter it was just 5-5.  The Bears would outscore MCLA 13-0 over the final five minutes to take control and lead 18-5 after one quarter.  The Bears would increase the margin to 32-15 at halftime.

Bridgewater would quell any thoughts of an MCLA comeback with a 22-12 third quarter.  They would cruise home from there.

Destiny Fitzgerald and Hannah Dziadyk led the Bears with 12 points each.  Fitzpatrick added 7 rebounds.  Sydney Bradbury came off the bench to score 11 points.  The Bears overcame a 37% shooting effort in the win.

MCLA was paced by Erika Ryan.  The senior had her best game of the season amassing 8 points, 11 blocks, and 12 rebounds.  Hannah Mazzeo notched just 5 points, but snagged 11 rebounds.

The Trailblazers shot just 31% and had trouble with the BSU pressure all afternoon.

MCLA is back in action on Tuesday night when they host Fitchburg State at 5:30.
