Softball Sweeps Non-Conference Doubleheader with Simmons

Brighton, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team defeated Simmons this afternoon by scores of 6-1 and 3-2 in a non-conference double header at Daley Field.     

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 6, Simmons 1 
Framingham State 3, Simmons 2 (9 Innings) 

-Records: Framingham State (7-7), Simmons (7-9)  

- Location: Daley Field Brighton, Mass  

Game 1 

  • In the opener, the Rams got on the board first with single run in the top of the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Makayla Rooney. 

  • The Rams extended the lead to 4-0 with three in the top of the fifth. Rooney plated the first run with an RBI double to center and Camille Desrochers followed with a two run homer to left center. 

  • Simmons plated a run in the bottom of the inning, but the Rams added two more in the top of the seventh to reach the final margin. 

  • Ally Moran earned the victory in the circle going seven innings allowing one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts. 

  • Brooke Grassia finished the game 3-for-4 with two triples, a double and three runs scored. Gwendolyn Carpenter finished the game 2-for-2 with a run scored, two walks, two RBI and a double and homer. Rooney finished the game with two hits and drove in a pair 

Game 2: 

  • After seven scoreless innings in game two, the Rams got on the board in the top of the eighth inning. With the runner placed on second base, Grassia advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored on an RBI single from Desrochers. 

  • Simmons tied the game in the bottom of the inning as they plated a run on a wild pitch. 

  • In the top of the ninth, Talia Duca sacrificed the runner from second to third and Grassia delivered a two run single to right field for the 3-1 lead. 

  • In the bottom of the inning, the Sharks were only able to score one run as the Rams held on for the victory. 

  • Olyvia Mendonca started in the circle for the Rams and went six scoreless innings allowing three hits with four strikeouts. Rylynn Witek earned the victory tossing three innings of relief allowing two unearned runs on three hits. 

  • Desrochers finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and walk, while Grassia drove in a pair and scored a run.
