Schwark Cracks Two Hits In Double Header Against Owls

WESTFIELD, MA - On Wednesday, March 22nd the Elms College Softball team faced Westfield State Owls for a non conference double header match up. The Blazers fell 8-0 in the first game followed by 14-0 in the second.

How it Happened

Jayden Dow (Springfield, MA) pitched two back to back hitless innings to start their double header off against the Westfield State Owls.  The Blazers caught some action in the top of the third inning with Courtney Schwark (Port Ewen, NY) singled up the right field line recording the first and only hit in the first game against the Owls. Senior Nicole Defeo (Watertown. CT) followed up reaching first due to a fielders choice, with Schwark advancing to second.  

Westfield State made connection with the ball in the bottom of the third sending four runners home to gain the lead, 4-0. Owls hits include runners batted in (RBI) by A. Higgins, S. Bingham, A. Clark and A. Rivera.  Westfield State would continue recording hits inot the 4th and 5th innings chalking up three more runs in the bottom of the fourth and a final run in the 5th. 

Dow pitched four innings for the Blazers before Ceara Wright (Chicopee, MA) stepped into the circle to take over for the sophomore picther for the final inning of the non conference game. 

The Blazer would fall to the Owls 8-0 in the first game.

How it Happened

In the second game the Blazers recorded hits across the line up including a single from Kelsey Bennett (Chicopee, MA) to right field to start off the first inning. The Blazers would continue making contact with the ball with back to back singles from Jayden Dow and Courtney Schwark making two on base appearances in the top of the third inning.

Ceara Wright would start in the circle for the Blazers, pitching the first inning with Jayden Dow finishing out the game for the continued three innings. 

The Owls would send home runners in the first and second innings recording 13 hits and 14 runs, to finish out the game winning 14-0 in the non conference match up.

The Elms College Softball team will host the MCLA Trailblazers on Monday, March 27th for a double header at Holyoke High School, first game starting at 7PM followed by a 9PM second game start.
