WESTFIELD, Mass. –  Westfield State's Mia Alfonso (Dalton, Mass./Pittsfield) rapped out four hits in the doubleheader, but the Owls dropped a non-conference twinbill to Wesleyan University by final scores of 9-1 and 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

Westfield slides to 22-14 overall on the season, while Wesleyan is now 13-21.

In the opener, the host Cardinal exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning, with Sydney Walls doubling home two runs to help prompt a five-inning, 8-run rule win.  Starter Stephanie Scoville (L, 11-5) lost her third straight decision for Westfield.   Wesleyan starter Brooklin Williams (W, 5-6) worked around six walks to get the win.

In the nightcap, Westfield put together a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to grab a 2-1 lead, but the Cardinals answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame for the walk off win.

In the top of the seventh, Westfield's Alyssa Clark (Uxbridge, Mass.) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and worked her way around to later score on wild pitch to tie the game 1-1, then Jordyn Lummus (Pittsfield, Mass.)  delivered an RBI single to score Xandra Silva to grab the lead.

In the bottom half of the frame, Wesleyan string together three singles off Owls' starter Gianna Conte (Greenfield, Mass.) (L, 5-6), with Molly Lennon driving in the game winner for one of her three hits in the game.

Conte went the distance, scattering 13 hits, but limited the Cards' scoring chances by striking out four an not allowing a walk.

Alfonso finished the day 4-5 with three doubles.  Clark added a double in game 2.

Bella Sicaro-Cotto (W, 5-7) came on in relief  to get the win for Wesleyan.

Westfield closes out the regular season with a conference doubleheader at Bridgewater State on Saturday.  Westfield currently sits in second place in the conference and can assure themselves the two seed with a split.
