Softball Splits Non-Conference Doubleheader at Johnson & Wales

Providence, R.I. - The Framingham State University softball team dropped game one of a non-conference doubleheader 8-7 to Johnson & Wales before taking game two by a score of 10-3 at Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex.     

THE BASICS:

Game 1 

  • In the opener, the Rams used a Gwendolyn Carpenter RBI single in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. JWU tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a bases loaded groundout. 

  • The Rams plated four in the top of the second to lead 5-1 Angelina Lynch and Brooke Grassia reached on errors allowing two runs to score and Camille Desrochers added a two-run single to center. 

  • The Rams extended the lead to 7-1 in the top of the fourth on a two run single from Zoe Smythe, but JWU answered with two in the bottom of the inning closing the gap to 6-3. 

  • The Wildcats added two more in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth tying the game at 7-7. JWU walked off with the victory in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI fielder's choice. 

  • Ally Moran took the loss for the Rams going three innings in relief and allowing five runs, four earned on five hits. 

Game 2: 

  • In game two, the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Rams countered with four in the top of the second taking the lead for good. Grassia delivered an RBI single in the inning and Makayla Rooney added a three run double. 

  • The Rams added a single run in the top of the third before JWU plated a pair in the bottom of the fourth. 

  • The Rams added three in the fifth and two in the sixth to reach the final margin. 

  • Rooney and Keely Scotia finished the game with three RBIs apiece for the Rams. 

  • Olyvia Mendonca earned the victory in the circle going seven innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

The Rams are back in action on Saturday when they host Worcester State for a pair of MASCAC games beginning at 1 p.m.
