Women’s Basketball can’t keep pace with Worcester State

Worcester, MA- Hailey Peabody set a new career-high and led all scorers with 21 points but MCLA fell to Worcester State tonight 76-40 in MASCAC action. With the win Worcester State improves to 10-14 (6-5 MASCAC) while MCLA falls to 4-19 (1-10 MASCAC).

The Lancers would score the first twelve points and found themselves up 17-2 just over four and a half minutes into the game. The Trailblazers would settle in and outscore the hosts 13-8 to close the quarter but still trailed 25-15 after one.

The visitors would not get any closer as Worcester State would extend their lead in each of the final three quarters and cruise to a comfortable 76-40 victory.

Madison Gutierrez led the Lancers with 14 points while Katie Hurynowicz with 12, and Abby St. Martin with 10, also reached double figures.

In addition to Peabody's 21 points the first-year also grabbed eight rebounds. Senior Maddie Teta chipped in 13 points.

Worcester State shot 36.6% from the field including an impressive 11-17 (64.7%) from 3-point land. The Lancers also turned the Trailblazers over 29 times and grabbed 27 offensive rebounds contributing to forty more field goal attempts (82-42).  MCLA shot 35.7% from the field but connected on just 2 of 7 three-pointers.

Both teams will wrap up their regular seasons on Saturday at 2pm. Worcester State will travel to Framingham State while MCLA will host Bridgewater State.
