Men’s Ice Hockey Rally Past Panthers

AUBURN, MA: The Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team took on the Plymouth State Panthers at the Horgan Arena on Saturday evening.

THE BASICS:

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The game was a back-and-forth affair until the AMCATS made the most of a five-on-three opportunity in the third period. The Panthers were called for two penalties less than 20 seconds apart and the AMCATS power play unit made them pay.
  • With the two-man advantage freshman forward Braeden McKinnon (Holland Landing, ON) tied the game at three when he put home a pass from senior defenseman Cam Tobey (Falmouth, MA) and sophomore defenseman Derek Raposo (Hannon, ON). The goal was McKinnon's second of the night and third of the season.
  • As the power play was winding down, the AMCATS got their first lead of the night when freshman defenseman Pearce Baker (King, ON) found the back of the net with an assist from junior defenseman Samson Mouland (Hay River, NT) and freshman defenseman Brynden Sinclair (Peguis, MB).
  • McKinnon scored his first goal with 2:29 left in the first period to tie the game at one goal apiece. Sophomore winger Matthew Byrne (Penticton, BC) and freshman defenseman Mkyllan Couture (Pilot Buttle, SK) were credited with assists.
  • The AMCATS' second goal of the game tied the score at two came on the power play just over six minutes into the third period. Senior center Patrik Peltola (Espoo, Finland) lit the lamp for the AMCATS, with assists credited to McKinnon and Byrne.
  • Freshman goaltender Cole Johnston (Regina, SK) recorded 36 saves on 39 shots to improve his record to 1-1-0.
