Softball Sweeps Doubleheader with MCLA

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team picked up a pair of five inning victories this afternoon as they defeated MCLA 12-0 and 8-0 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader  at Maple Street Field.     

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 12, MCLA 0 (5 Innings) 
Framingham State 8, MCLA 0 (5 Innings) 

-Records: Framingham State (19-9, 6-0 MASCAC), MCLA (6-20, 0-6 MASCAC)  

- Location: Maple Street Field Framingham, Mass.   

Game 1 

  • In the opener, the Rams grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI fielder's choice from Talia Duca and an error. 

  • The Rams opened the game up with seven in the second extending the lead to 9-0. Brooke Grassia reached on an infield single driving in a pair and Makayla Rooney added a two-run single up the middle. Gwendolyn Carpenter added a three-run homer in the frame. 

  • The Rams added two more in the third and one in the fourth to reach the final margin. 

  • Grassia finished the game with three hits and two RBI, while Rooney chipped in with three hits, three runs scored and three RBI. 

  • Carpenter picked up three hits with a run scored and four RBI, while Angelina Lynch also recorded a pair of hits. 

Game 2: 

  • In game two, the Rams plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning on a two run double from Carpenter who then stole home later in the inning. Duca added a sacrifice fly in the inning. 

  • The Rams added a single run in the bottom of the third on a fielder's choice and a single run in the fourth on a Grassia sacrifice fly. 

  • The Rams plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth on solo homer from Carpenter and a Keely Scotia RBI double to reach the eight-run margin. 

  • Olyvia Mendonca earned the victory in the circle going five innings allowing no runs on three hits with three strikeouts.  

  • Carpenter went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI,

The Rams are back in action on Monday when they host Salem State for a pair of games beginning at noon.
