Men's Hoops Woes Continue in Home Loss to MCLA

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Men's Basketball hosted the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening at Picknelly Arena.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 69 | Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 73
Records: Blazers 0-10, 0-0 (GNAC) | Trailblazers 1-10, 0-0 (MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Elms would start with the ball, but MCLA would have the early advantage, taking an early 7-0 lead until layups by senior guard/forward Aaron Sanchez (the Bronx, N.Y.) and senior forward/center Addison Phifer (Hadley, Mass.) and a jump shot from junior guard Aden Goffe (New Haven, Conn.), along with a block by Phifer, would help the Blazers momentarily take the lead 8-7, until a three-point shot from the opposition would give the Trailblazers back the lead. MCLA would continue to add to their lead, but layups from Sanchez, Goffe, junior forwards RJ Mayfield (Springfield, Mass.), Adam Sarlan (Chicopee, Mass.), and graduate forward Neilon Bridgeman (Brooklyn, N.Y.), two three-pointers by sophomore guard Andrew Ciaglo (Hadley, Mass.), along with a block by Mayfield and steals by Ciaglo and Sarlan would help Elms try to cut their deficit, but the Trailblazers would hold their 35-29 lead going into the halftime break.

MCLA would be the first to score in the second half, but the Blazers would create offensive momentum after a steal by Mayfield led to a layup by Cole, a three-point play by Mayfield, and a layup from senior guard Kishaun Cole (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) would bring Elms to within two points of tying the game. Unfortunately, the Trailblazers would quickly capitalize on mistakes from the Blazers to add to their lead, but Elms would not be ignored, following a tip-in by junior center/guard/forward Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, Mass.), jump shots from Goffe and Mayfield, a three-point shot and three-point play by Ciaglo, and layups from Cole and Bridgeman would rally the Blazers again to two points of tying the game at 54-52, but MCLA would continue to add to their lead. As Elms continued their attempts to gain the lead, with the assistance of another tip-in by Cancel, a steal by junior guard/forward Max Rolnick (Vaughan, Ontario) led to a breakaway layup from Cole, a three-point play by Goffe, a tip-in from Mayfield, a layup by Birdgeman, and multiple free throws by Cancel, steals by Goffe and Mayfield, and blocks from Bridgeman and Mayfield, but the Trailblazers would defeat the Blazers to secure their first win of the season 88-69.
