Baseball Opens Season Splitting a Pair with Anna Maria

Northboro, Mass.  – The Framingham State University baseball team returned to the field for the first time in over a year and took game one of doubleheader with Anna Maria College 10-4 before falling to the Amcats 3-2 in game two at the New England Baseball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game 1 -

• In the opener, the Amcats took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before the Rams rallied for four in the top of the second.  Freshman Ryan Boyle (Arlington, Mass.) belted a grand slam for his first collegiate homer.
• The Amcats cut the deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the second when they capitalized on Rams fielding miscue.
• The Rams responded with one in the top of the third as Boyle reached on an error scoring senior Anthony Herman (Stratford, Conn.).
• Senior Bobby Higgins (Barnstable, Mass.) launched a two run home run to left in the fourth extending the lead to 7-2.
• The Rams added two more in the top of the sixth and one in the seventh to account for their final runs, while the Amcats got a pair in the bottom of the seventh.
• Higgins finished the game with two hits, two runs scored and two RBI, while Boyle finished the game with a pair of hits, two runs scored and four RBI.
• Sophomore Anthony Panza (Watertown, Mass.) earned the victory on the mound for the Rams tossing three and two thirds innings of relief. Panza allowed two earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts.

Game 2 -

• In game two, the Rams led 2-0 after single runs in the fourth and fifth.  The Rams took advantage of an Anna Maria error to score in the fourth and Boyle plated a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to right.
• Freshman Jack Foley (Burlington, Conn.) started on the hill for the Rams and went three scoreless innings allowing just one hit with four strikeouts and five walks.
• Freshman Scott Nosky (Dedham, Mass.) tossed three innings of scoreless relief before the Amcats rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory in game two.
• Boyle finished game two for the Rams with two hits, a run scored and an RBI.
