Moran Tosses Shutout as Softball Advances with 4-0 Victory over UMass Dartmouth

Salisbury, MD - The Framingham State University softball team received a complete-game shutout performance in the circle from Ally Moran as the Rams defeated UMass Dartmouth 4-0 this afternoon to advance in the 2023 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament.  With the loss, the Corsairs were eliminated from the tournament.   

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 4, UMass Dartmouth 0 

-Records: Framingham State (33-12), UMass Dartmouth (30-14)  

- Location: Knight Stadium Salisbury, MD   

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Rams plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning and that was all Moran would need as she faced 27 batters and allowed just five hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Moran earned her 22ndvictory of the season in the circle as she threw just 85 pitches. 

  • The Rams loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning on singles from Brooke Grassia and Camille Desrochers and a walk from Makayla Rooney. After an out, Talia Duca followed with an RBI single to center and Kelsey McGuill plated a pair with a double to right. Zoe Smyth singled to reload the bases. After an out, Angelina Lynch worked a bases loaded walk to force home the final run of the game. 

  • Smyth finished the game 2-for-2, while Desrochers went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. 

  • Kaitlyn Shirshac took the loss for the Corsairs, going .2 of an inning allowing four earned runs on five hits, while Jill Richards came on and tossed 5.1 innings in relief allowing no runs on two hits with four strikeouts.  

 

UP NEXT: 

With the win, the Rams will face Williams who was defeated this morning by Salisbury later this afternoon in an elimination game.
