MCLA holds off Becker 69-57
North Adams, MA- The MCLA women's basketball team held off Becker College 69-57 this evening at the Amsler Campus Center Gym. With the win, MCLA is now 3-1 while Becker falls to 0-3.
MCLA opened the game by scoring the first six points to jump out to an early lead. They would have their largest advantage in the half at 11-4 at the 13:47 mark on Jen Wehner's free throw. Becker would battle back to within a point at 26-25 on Kristina Desnoyers jumper with 2:50 left until halftime. MCLA would extend again and lead 34-28 at the half.
The second half became a physical contest as both sides had some early foul trouble. After a pair of Becker free throws closed the margin to 34-30 at the onset of the half, MCLA would go on an 8-0 run with bookend buckets by Olivia McMullen to go ahead 42-30 with 17:18 left to play.
After MCLA would extend the lead to 14 with just under 14:00 minutes to play, Becker would make one more run. The visiting Hawks would go on a 12-2 run to close within four at 53-49 at the 7:00 minute mark. The Trailblazers would respond though with a 10-3 run to go up by 11. Solid free throw shooting from Alie Dobrovolc would secure the win for the Trailblazers.
Dobrovolc would finish with a game high 20 points, with ten coming from the stripe. She also added seven steals. McMullen would collect 13 points and a game high 16 rebounds, while Hilary Perks had 8 assists and 8 boards.
For the Hawks, Haley Ooms led with 14 points and 8 boards. Nia Nguany chipped in with 12 in the loss.
MCLA is back in action on Sunday when they travel to Williams.
