DiGennaro and Ramos each score 24, lead Women’s Basketball to opening night win over Lesley, 73-60

Medford, MA- Senior Brooke DiGennaro and first year Zaylee Ramos each scored 24 points tonight leading MCLA to a 73-60 opening night road victory against Lesley University.

DiGennaro would score 12 first quarter points including two 3-pointers helping the Trailblazers take a 24-7 lead into the break.

Lesley would answer in the second holding MCLA to just 4 points as the Lynx used nine made free throws to trim the margin to five going into halftime down 28-23.

Lesley's Alexandra Kerley would score 9 of her team-high 18 points and MCLA's Zaylee Ramos would score 8 points in a high scoring 3rd quarter. A Sophia Torres jumper four minutes into the second half would give the Lynx their first lead at 32-31 since early in the contest. Hailey Peabody would answer regaining the lead for the Trailblazers. The teams would be tied once more but MCLA would take a slim 3-point, 49-46 lead into the 4th quarter.

Thirty seconds into the final stanza Hillary Berry would give Lesley their last lead of the night at 50-49 before a Zaylee Ramos 3-pointer would regain the lead for the Trailblazers.  DiGennaro and Ramos would score 9 of the next 10 points to extend the MCLA lead to 62-50 with 6:22 remaining. Lesly would cut the margin to six but could get no closer as MCLA closed out the game on a 9-2 run and earned the 73-60 win.

Lesley was led by Alexandra Kerley with 18 points and Sophia Torres who finished with a double-double (14 points and 16 rebounds).

MCLA was paced by Ramos and DiGennaro who each scored 24 points with Ramos adding 8 rebounds. First year Kristie Zator chipped in 8 points while senior Olivia Pressley finished with 5 points and 6 assists.

Lesley shot 35.6% from the field including just 3-12 from beyond the arc. MCLA was able to shoot 45.2% from the field and went 6-17 from three.

Both teams will be in action this Saturday at noon as Lesley hosts Maine Presque Isle and the Trailblazers host Elms.
