Women’s Basketball drops conference decision to Worcester State

North Adams, MA- Worcester State jumped out early and never looked back on their way to a 78-33 win over the MCLA Women's Basketball team this afternoon at the Amsler Campus Center. With the win the Lancers improve to 7-11 (3-2 MASCAC) while the Trailblazers fall to 3-14 (0-5 MASCAC).

Worcester State opened the game on an 8-0 run which was capped off by a Katie Hurywnowicz layup just over two and a half minutes into the game. A minute later MCLA's Kristie Zator would hit 3-pointer cutting the lead to 8-5, but that would be as close as the Trailblazers would get. The Lancers would close the quarter on an 11-1 run, making it 19-6 after one.

Unfortunately for MCLA the second and third quarters were nearly identical as the Trailblazers struggled to find any offensive rhythm.

Ashlyn Bill would score 5 of her team-high 9 points in the fourth quarter for MCLA as the hosts put up 15 points in the final stanza. Ultimately however, Worcester State proved to be too much this afternoon sailing to the 78-33 win.

Katie Hurywnowicz finished with a game-high 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds for the Lancers. Teammate Elizabeth Gallella also reached double figures chipping in 10 points.

Worcester State shot 43.1% on the day including going 8-16 from beyond the 3-point line. MCLA struggled from the field shooting just 21.4% and just 2-9 on 3-point attempts.

Both teams will next be in action on Wednesday at 7:30pm as Worcester State will host Framingham State and MCLA travels to Bridgewater State.
