Softball Rallies for Final Day Split in Florida

Auburndale, Fla. - The Framingham State softball team used a ten-run third inning to erase a 5-1 deficit en route to a 14-6 victory over Carleton in their final game of their southern swing. The Rams dropped their first game of the afternoon to St Mary's (ID) 9-2.

Framingham State 14, Carleton 6 (6 innings)  

- Records: Framingham State (5-5), Carleton (5-1), St. Mary's (5-5) 

- Location:  The Spring Games – Auburndale, Fla.   

FSU-St. Mary's:   

The Rams jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second when Kelsey McGuill blasted a solo homer to center. 

The Belles answered with a three-spot in the third when they scored on a wild pitch, sac fly and an error to take a 3-1 lead.  

A solo homer and and RBI ground out extended St. Mary's lead to four.  

Camille Desrochers singled in Talia Duca in the 5thto make it 5-2 before the Belles scored four runs in the 7thto reach the final margin.  

Mandi Hettinger earned the win going seven innings, giving up seven hits and two runs with three strikeouts.  

Rylynn Witek suffered the loss throwing 6.1 innings allowing seven runs, four earned with five punchouts.  

Desrochers and Duca both finished the game with two hits for the Rams.   

FSU-Carleton 

Carleton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on RBI singles by Bryanna Schaffer, Laurie Avila & Grace Colburn. 

The Rams answered in the top of the second when Keely Scotia knocked in Angelina Lynch with a Sac Fly to center.  

Carleton squeaked two more across in the bottom half of the second before the Rams exploded for 10 runs in the top of the third.  

Gwendolyn Carpenter opened the onslaught with a two-run homer to center. Keely Scotia knocked in a run before Moran roped a two-run double to right center. After a two-run double for Desrochers and an RBI single by Brooke Grassia, Carpenter collected her second RBI hit of the inning with an RBI double to right and scored on an error later in the inning to put the Rams up 10-5.  

Carleton scored in the third before a Moran RBI double in the 4th and a Makayla Rooney two-run double in the 6thpushed the Rams lead to eight.  

Ally Moran earned the win going 4.1 innings in relief giving up one run collecting four strikeouts.  

Hala Soliman was saddled with the loss for Carleton.  

Carpenter finished the game 4-for-5 with a homer, double and 3 RBI while Moran was 3-for-4 with two doubles and 3 RBI. Desrochers and Brooke Grassia both picked up two hits apiece in the win for the Rams.

The Rams are back in action up north on Thursday when they travel to Wentworth for a 3pm doubleheader.
