MYERS GAME WINNING GOAL POWERS WOMEN'S HOCKEY OVER TRAILBLAZERS IN MASCAC QUARTERFINAL GAME

Worcester, MA – On Febuary 26th, The Anna Maria College women's hockey team secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over MCLA in the MASCAC Quarterfinals, advancing to the next round of the postseason. A strong second-period effort and clutch goaltending allowed the AMCATS to hold off their opponents and claim the win.
 
Anna Maria set the tone early, playing with energy and purpose in front of the home crowd at Buffone Arena. The AMCATS struck first with Olympia Myers scoring the opening goal in the first period, assisted by Alexandra Petersen, giving Anna Maria a 1-0 lead. They carried that momentum into the second period but faced a quick response from MCLA, who tied the game at 1-1 just 24 seconds into the frame.
 
Anna Maria responded quickly, regaining the lead at 4:12 of the second period as Ceili Nolan found the back of the net, marking her first goal of the season. Just minutes later, during a power play opportunity, Olympia Myers struck again, capitalizing off an assist from Nolan to extend the lead to 3-1. However, MCLA pushed back, scoring later in the period to make it a 3-2 game heading into the final 20 minutes.
 
The third period was a defensive battle, with both teams generating scoring chances but being denied by strong goaltending. Anna Maria's Megan Tegethoff stood tall in net, making key saves down the stretch to maintain the AMCATS' slim lead. MCLA pulled their goalie late in the game, but Anna Maria's defensive unit held strong to seal the victory.
 
Beyond the Box Score
-Olympia Myers led the offense with two goals, including the game-winner on the power play.
-Ceili Nolan contributed a goal and an assist, playing a crucial role in Anna Maria's second-period surge.
-Megan Tegethoff made 21 saves on 23 shots, shutting down MCLA in the final period to secure the victory.
- This marks the first ever MASCAC quaterfinal game in women's ice hockey history.

The AMCATS now move forward in the MASCAC Tournament, looking to carry their momentum into the semifinal game where they will travel to Plymouth, NH to take on the Panthers of Plymouth State. Puck Drop is set for 6:00pm.
