MCLA pulls away from Salem for 81-64 league win

North Adams, MA- The trio of Jen Wehner, Alie Dobrovolc, and Lucy Tremblay combined for 49 points and 38 rebounds in leading MCLA to a convincing 81-64 victory over the visiting Salem State Vikings.  With the win, MCLA moves to 8-5 overall (1-1 MASCAC) while Salem falls to 3-7 (0-1 MASCAC).  The 81 points were a season high for the Trailblazers.

After MCLA scored the first six points of the game, the visiting Vikings went on their own 6-0 run to knot the game at 6-6.  MCLA then used a 14-2 run to push out to their largest lead of the half at 20-8.  Salem would trim the lead to five at 22-17 following a 7-0 run.  Both teams would trade hoops until halftime where MCLA led 34-29.

MCLA burst out of the locker and quickly pushed the lead to eleven at 42-31 on a Tremblay layup with 16:45 to play.  After a three from Salem's Madeline Park brought the Vikings back within eight at 44-36, MCLA used a powerful burst to put the game away.  A 13-2 run by the Trailblazers gave MCLA a commanding 57-38 lead with 12:49 to play.  Salem would get no closer the rest of the way.

Wehner led MCLA with game highs of 20 points and 17 rebounds for her eighth straight double double.  Dobrovolc added a double double of her own with 16 points and 15 rebounds.  Tremblay added a season high 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists off the bench.

Park led Salem with 17 points including three triples, while Amy Barry added 11 points.  Margaret Wallace added 10 points for the Vikings. 

MCLA held a commanding edge off the glass in the second half, outrebounding Salem 66-39 (38-15 in the second half). 

The Trailblazers will play at Sage on Thursday night at 6pm, while Salem will host Westfield on Saturday.
