Late Surge Propels Men's Basketball Past Fisher 73-70

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University men's basketball team erased a double digit second half deficit with a 19-6 run as the Rams went on to secure a 73-70 victory over Fisher College in non-conference action at Logan Gymnasium.     

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Falcons opened the game and led 8-3 just under three into the game. 

  • The Rams chipped away at the lead and tied the game at 18-18 after five straight points from Jahden Erold. 

  • Fisher responded with a 9-0 spurt taking a 27-18 lead with seven to play in the frame.  JD Okafor ended the run with a dunk for the Rams. 

  • The Falcons extended the lead to 35-22 with five to play before heading to the locker room leading 43-29. 

  • The Rams closed the gap to six in the opening minutes of the second half, but Fisher pushed the lead back to 53-41 with 13 minutes to play. 

  • The Rams used a 19-6 run over the next six minutes to take the lead 60-59 on an Okafor layup. Erold nailed a big three on the spurt and Bryan Thompson pushed the lead to 63-59 on a three with just over five to play. 

  • Fisher pulled within two (64-62) but an Ivan Nyantenji three pushed the lead back two five with two to play. 

  • Fisher once again pulled within on a Kyle Butler-Gaffney layup, but an Aveon Woods bucket pushed the lead back to three. 

  • Fisher closed the gap to one, 71-70, on a pair of free throws with eight seconds to play, but Okafor drilled a pair of free throws to seal the victory for the Rams. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Okafor finished the game with a double double for the Rams with 20 points and 13 rebounds, while Erold chipped in with 12 points and eight boards off the bench. 

  • Nyantenji and Woods finished with 11 points apiece and Woods just missed a double double as he finished with nine boards, two assists and two steals. 

  • Cross Bandy finished the game with 13 points and three assists for Fisher, while Johnny Ortiz added 12 and Dakota Gillespie added 10.

The Rams are back in action Thursday night when they travel to Gordon at 7 p.m. The Falcons travel to Bryant & Stratton on Saturday at 6 p.m.
