WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State junior Gianluca Marini (Lighthouse Point, Fla.) scored the game-winning goal with 1:40 remaining in regulation time to give the Owls a 3-2 victory over UMass Dartmouth in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Thursday night from New Bedford, Mass.

The Owls have now won three straight games, moving their overall record to 9-9-1 on the season and jump ahead of the Corsairs in the conference standings with a 5-7 league mark. UMass Dartmouth slips to 6-11-2 and 4-7-1 in the MASCAC.

Marini registered two points on the night, scoring the game-winning goal while also assisting in the equalizer. Cory Morris (Kahnawake, Quebec), who scored the go-ahead goal in the win over Post this past Tuesday, recorded an assist on the Marini winner.

The Owls erased two one-goal deficits in the first period as both teams scored a pair of goals in the frame. Matthew Zdanowicz (Lyndhurst, N.J.) began the scoring 6:33 into the period, connecting on a power play goal with Michael Perrone (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) and Michael Mania (Bayville, N.J.) recording assists.

Westfield tied the game four minutes and 16 seconds later as Brett Williams (Middleboro, Mass.) potted his fifth of the season on a feed from Mathieu Jones (Gatineau, Quebec).

Both teams then traded goals less than a minute apart, beginning with Billy McDevitt (Livonia, N.Y.) who scored the Corsairs second goal of the night. Owls' senior Justin Collins (Wilmington, Mass.) quickly answered on a power play opportunity for Westfield, depositing his fourth goal of the year to draw the Owls even.

Owls goalkeeper Valtteri Valtonen (Helsinki, Finland) picked up his second win of the season against the Corsairs, improving to 7-9-1 on the season after stopping 33 shots on net. Daniel Davidson (Surrey, B.C.) registered 41 saves for UMass Dartmouth as the Owls outshot the Corsairs 44-35.
