HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Both team skated to a scoreless, clean sheet 1stperiod with Westfield leading in shots 13-to-11 after one frame.

  • The Rams had the first powerplay of the game with about six minutes to go in the second period. They maintained possession throughout most of the advantage but when the penalty was released the Owls created a 3-2 rush that Carlson was again able to thwart.

  • Westfield had another good look with about five minutes to play in the third but Carlson got a piece of it and it deflected off the post and the play was whistled dead after the goal was knocked loose.

  • With just over three minutes to play Eli Slagter tucked a wrist shot inside the right post for the 1-0 lead.

  • About a minute later Dylan Marty found the back of the net off a setup from Sam Larkin to put the Rams up 2-0 late in regulation.

  • The Owls pulled their goalie in the final moments but could not come up with the score.
