Baseball Sweeps Westfield State to Move to Top of MASCAC Standings

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University baseball team took game one 8-1 and rallied from a two run deficit for a 5-4 victory in game two over Westfield State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Bowditch Field.  With the two victories, the Rams now sit atop the MASCAC standings at 8-4 with Mass. Maritime sliding into the second spot at 9-5.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

Game 1: Framingham 8, Westfield 1 

  • The Rams grabbed a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. JC Espinal plated two runs with a single and Dane Frellick added a two run single, while Johnny Lynch drove in a run with a ground out. 

  • The Rams pushed the lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the second on RBI base hits from Robert Johnston and Lynch. 

  • Rams starter Joshua Sunderland earned the complete game victory on the hill, going seven innings allowing one unearned run on five hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. 

  • Frellick finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Ryan Boyle and Lucas Basile added two hits apiece. 

Game 2: Framingham 5, Westfield 4 

  • The Rams once again got on the board first on a solo homer from Boyle in the bottom of the first inning. 

  • The Owls answered with a run in the top of the second tying the game, but an RBI groundout from Ryan Plocker in the bottom of the inning gave the Rams a 2-1 lead. 

  • The Owls took the lead with three runs in the top of the sixth and led 4-2. 

  • The Rams answered with three in the bottom of the inning taking a 5-4 lead. Daniel Robichaud drove in a pair of runs with a single and Basile reached on an error allowing Robichaud to score the game winning run. 

  • Adam Martin earned the victory on the mound going an inning and a third in relief. Martin allowed no runs on no hits with a strikeout. Vincent LoGuidice started for the Rams and went five and two thirds innings allowing four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. 

  • Frellick and Robichaud finished game two with three hits apiece, while Boyle finished the game with a pair of hits.
