Softball Sweeps MASCAC Doubleheader with Worcester State

Worcester, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team rallied for a7-5 victory in game one and then picked up a 9-1 victory in six innings in game two as the Rams swept a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader at Worcester State this afternoon.

Framingham State 9, Worcester State 1 (6 Innings) 

- Records: Framingham State (12-10, 7-1 MASCAC), Worcester State (13-10, 3-3 MASCAC) 

- Location: Ralph Raymond Diamond Worcester, Mass. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Framingham State 7, Worcester State 5 

  • In the opener, the Lancers grabbed a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. 

  • The Rams used a solo home run from Kelsey McGuill in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-1, but the Lancers added a single run in the bottom of the inning. 

  • The game remained 5-1 until the top of the fifth when the Rams plated six runs taking the lead for good. Brooke Grassia scored first on a passed ball and Marina Cadena added a sacrifice fly. Talia Duca plated a run with a single and Gwendolyn Carpenter drove in a pair with a double. 

  • Caroline Hughes earned the victory going six innings allowing five unearned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts. Ally Moran tossed an inning of scoreless relief to earn the save. 

  • Carpenter finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI, while McGuill finished 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs scored and an RBI.  

Game 2: Framingham State 9, Worcester State 1 (6 Innings) 

  • In game two, the Lancers once again grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. 

  • The Rams took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the top of the third on an RBI triple from Carpenter and a sacrifice fly from Makayla Rooney. 

  • The Rams added three more in the top of the fourth on a two run single from Victoria Connelly and Carpenter RBI single. 

  • The Rams added two runs in the top of the fifth and two in the top of the sixth to reach the run rule victory. McGuill plated her second home run of the day in the fifth. 

  • Moran earned the victory going six innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits with six strikeouts. 

  • Connelly finished the game 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI, while Carpenter went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, two runs scored and three RBI.
