Softball Falls to Salisbury in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

Salisbury, MD - The Framingham State University softball team was defeated 10-2 in five innings by #1 Salisbury this afternoon in an opening round game of the 2023 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament.     

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Salisbury 10, Framingham State 2 (5 Innings) 

-Records: Framingham State (32-12), Salisbury (40-3)  

- Location: Seagull Stadium Salisbury, MD   

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Rams grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Brooke Grassia led off the game with a double and moved to third on a single from Makayla Rooney. Camille Desrochers followed with an RBI single and Gwendolyn Carpenter added a sacrifice fly in the frame. 

  • Salisbury took the lead for the good with five runs in the bottom of the inning including a three-run homer from Carrie Jacoby and a solo from Maddison Lednum. 

  • Salisbury added single runs in the second and third before plating three in the fifth to reach the run rule victory. 

  • Grassia, Rooney and Desrochers all recorded hits for the Rams in the game. 

  • Ally Moran took the loss in the circle going an inning, allowing five earned runs on five hits with a walk and a strikeout. 

  • Lindsey Windsor earned the win for Salisbury, going four innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits. 

  • Olyvia Mendonca tossed 3.2 innings of relief for the Rams in the game. 

 

UP NEXT: 

With the loss, the Rams will face UMass Dartmouth who was defeated today by Williams College tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. in an elimination game.
