Volleyball Opens 2022 Season with 3-1 Win Over USJ

Framingham, Mass. The Framingham State volleyball team opened the 2022 season with a come from behind 3-1 victory over the University of St. Joseph's (CT) this evening at Logan Gymnasium. 

THE BASICS: 

- Score: Framingham State 3, St Joe's (Conn.) 1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-13  

- Records:Framingham State (1-0), St Joe's (Conn.) (0-1) 

- Location: Logan Gym – Framingham, Mass.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Blue Jays came out on top in the opening set after back-and-forth play early in the set, tied at 18 the visitors rallied off a 6-0 run to take a 13-17 lead capped by a Shannon Carey kill. The Rams rallied back to make it 24-22 but Peyton Greger found the floor to cap the 1st game.  

  • In the second the Rams would jump out to a 13-8 lead which the Blue Jays would shrink to 17-14 but the Rams would go on a 6-1 capped by a Hailey Sanders kill and would finish of the set 25-19.  

  • In the third the Rams scored first and never trailed holding a 16-14 lead and rattled off a 9-3 scoring the last four points of the set to take a 2-1 lead.  

  • The hosts jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth and never looked back as they captured the final set 25-13 to earn their first win of the season.  

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams were led by 12 kills from Anna Szymanski who also added two service aces and 17 defensive digs. 

  • Hailey Sanders chipped in with 10 kills on 19 attempts and added three solo blocks, while Kiana Jones chipped in with nine kills. 

  • Malia Shields led the back row with 15 defensive digs and three service aces, while Emily Flaherty chipped in with 10 digs. 

  • St. Joe's was led by 16 kills from Shannon Carey who added three digs. 

  • Greger chipped in with a team-best 15 defensive digs and four service aces, while Natalia Rabassa added 14 digs. 

 

UP NEXT: 

  • The Rams return to the court on Saturday, September 3rd when they play Dean College and Lesley University in a tri-match starting at 11am. The Bluejays will host Mount Holyoke and Eastern Connecticut on the same day.
