Women’s Basketball Bests Salem State; 91-62

Salem, Mass. - Katty Haidul  and Flannery O'Connor each recorded a double-doubles for the Rams as they defeated Salem State by a score of 91-62 in MASCAC action Wednesday evening in Twohig Gymnasium 

THE BASICS: 

- Score:  Framingham State 91, Salem State 62 

- Records: Framingham State (16-5, 8-3 MASCAC), Salem State (11-14, 6-6 MASCAC) 

- Location: Twohig Gymnasium - Salem, Mass.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Despite striking first, the Vikings found themselves down by a tally of seven (9-2) with under five minutes to play in the opening stanza. Salem was able to trim the Rams lead to within three points (13-10) of the Rams at the end of one quarter.  

  • The Rams opened the second with eight unanswered points and took a 32-23 lead into the break.   

  • Three minutes into the second half, the Rams found themselves ahead by 16 points after opening on a 9-2 run to bring the score to 41-25 in their favor and force the Vikings hand at a timeout.   

  • Following the timeout, Salem was able to notch two at the free throw line before the Rams went on a run to givepush their lead to 20.  

  • The Rams would pusher their advantage to as many as 36 late in the 4th.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Haidul led the way with 22 points at 13 boards while dishing out three asssits and two rejections. O'Connor chipped in 15 points and 11 boards while Kelsey Yelle continued her strong play adding 13 points on 6-of-8 from the floor.  

  • Jenna Tavanese and Abigail Martin both added double digits off the bench for the Rams.  

  • Kylie Gates and Abuk Teng each scored 16 points for the Vikings.  

  • The Rams shot an efficient 50% from the floor scoring 54 points in the paint and shooting 47% from downtown.  

  • The Vikings were held to 34% from the floor and 20% from beyond the arc.

The Rams return to the court on Saturday when they close out the regular season when they host Worcester State.
