Balanced attack leads MCLA past Framingham State 72-63

Framingham, MA- MCLA placed four players in double figures, led by Jen Wehner's 21 point, 13 rebound effort, as the Trailblazers won their second straight game in defeating Framingham State 72-63. MCLA is now 14-8 overall, 6-4 in the league. Framingham drops to 11-12, 3-7 in the MASCAC.

Alie Dobrovolc also added a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Hilary Perks chipped in with 15 points as well, while Lucy Tremblay added 11.

The Rams were led by sophomore Kia Minor (Edgartown, Mass.) who picked up her 7^th double double of the season with a team-best 18 points and 11 rebounds. Despite struggling from the floor junior Emily Clark chipped in 13 points, two boards and three steals, while freshman Kristen Hoffman (Foxboro, Mass.) added 12 points and four steals. Sophomore Michelle Hagerty (Somerville, Mass.) grabbed seven rebounds and freshman guard Cassie Liston (Stoneham, Mass.) dished out a team-high five assists.

With the game tied at 8-8 just under four minutes into the game, the Trailblazers went on an 7-0 run to take the lead for good. Wehner scored five of MCLA's seven points on the spurt. The Rams chipped away and pulled within five (15-10) with 12:59 remaining, but the Trailblazers used a 15-7 run to take their largest lead of the game (30-17) with 5:13 remaining in the half.

The Trailblazers hot 61% from the floor in the first half (14-23), while the Rams struggled from the floor shooting only 32% (12-37) and trailed by eight at the break.

In the second half, the Rams pulled within three at 52-49 on a Hoffman jumper with 7:38 remaining in the game, but the Trailblazers used an 11-2 run to put the game away.

The Trailblazers cooled off in the second half finishing the game shooting 49% from the floor while holding a 45-36 edge on the glass. The Rams defense forced 23 turnovers which they converted into 16 points while only committing 14 turnovers themselves.

Both teams return to MASCAC action on Tuesday as the Rams host Westfield State at 5:30 p.m. and the Trailblazers travel to Fitchburg State at 5:30 p.m.
