Volleyball Outlast Westfield State 3-1

Westfield, Mass. - The Framingham State University volleyball team earned a hard fought 3-1 victory over Westfield State University this morning in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) match at the Woodward Center. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 3, Westfield State 1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23) 

-Records: Framingham State (9-4, 1-0 MASCAC), Westfield State (4-8, 1-1 MASCAC)  

- Location: Woodward Center Westfield, Mass.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Rams took the opening frame 25-22 before Westfield countered taking the second 25-20. 

  • The Rams the Rams opened up a double digit lead and then held off the surging Owls taking the set 25-21 and the 2-1 lead.  

  • In the fourth, the Owls opened a significant lead before the Rams stormed back, tying the match at 12-12. The two teams traded points until the Rams were able to close out the set and the match. 

  • The Rams were paced on the attack in the match by 23 kills and 20 digs from Anna Szymanski, while Hailey Sanders chipped in with 18 kills on 32 attempts with just two errors for a .500 kill percentage. Sanders also added three blocks. 

  • The Rams received 16 digs and 17 set assists from Isabel Henwood, while Malia Shields tallied 16 digs and Stella Bailey handed out 29 set assists and five aces. 

  • The Owls were led by 16 kills, five digs and three aces from Bridgette McAndrews, while Michaela O'Connor chipped in with 11 kills. 

  • Allie Hill paced the Owls back row with 23 digs and two aces, while Shawna Crowley added 11 digs
