Women’s Ice Hockey Draws With Trailblazers On The Road

NORTH ADAMS, MA– On Saturday January 14, 2025, the Anna Maria Women's Ice Hockey team traveled to North Adams, MA to take on the Trailblazers of MCLA. The AMCATS tied the game 2-2 with a shootout win.

The AMCATS and Trailblazers would go back and forth both teams having scoring opportunities and chances in the first period. It would be the AMCATS to have the upper hand outshooting the Trailblazers 16 to 13 throughout the first period. It would be the Trailblazers to tuck in the first goal of the game, with about less than five minutes left in the first period to take the lead in the game against the AMCATS 1 to 0. The Trailblazers  would then hold onto their 1-0 lead for the remainder of the first period, and the AMCATS would head to the locker room down to the Trailblazers to 1 to 0, with plenty of time left to play in the game.

The second period would be all AMCATS, as they would come out strong against the Trailblazers. They would take total control of the Trailblazers in the second period putting everything they could on the net. The AMCATS would not only totally take control offensively outshooting the Trailblazers 10 to 4 but would lock it down on defense against the Trailblazers as well. It would be the Trailblazers goalie to continue to totally close the door against the AMCATS denying any of their scoring opportunities. It would finally be the AMCATS to get one past Trailblazers goalie O'Brien, off a pass from Jordyn Bleaney to Tessa Henry who would score the goal for the AMCATS. Henry goal would be the tying goal against the Trailblazers and would be the only goal scored in the second period, with AMCATS goaltender Tegethoff stopping all 4 shots faced in the second period. Both teams would head to the locker room at the end of the second period tied at 1 to 1.

In the third period the AMCATS would come out strong against the Trailblazers and would continue to fight to break the tie against the Trailblazers. It would be the AMCATS to strike early in the third period with the second goal of the game off the stick of Olympia Myers, assisted by Ceili Nolan and Jordyn Bleaney. That would be the leading goal in the third period and would put the AMCATS ahead of the Trailblazers 2 to 1, with about 17 minutes left to play in the third period. The AMCATS would continue the pressure, but it would be Trailblazers goaltender that would continue to shut down the offense from the AMCATS and close the door on their opportunities. It would be the Trailblazers to get some scoring opportunities at the 13-minute mark, where they would find themselves striking the back of the net to get the game tying goal in the third period. The AMCATS would continue the pressure, but were unable to gain the lead, and despite the last few second scoring opportunities from the Trailblazers, AMCATS goaltender Tegethoff would keep the game notched at 2 to 2. The 2 to 2 tie meant this game was going to need to head to over time to find a winner.

Following the five-minute overtime, the game would still be knotted at 2 to 2. It would be both teams to get scoring opportunities and chances in the extra period. But it would be both goalies to lock down the net and keep this game tied, at the end of overtime, which would then lead to a shootout to determine the winner.

The AMCATS would open things up with a goal from Jordyn Bleaney to get the AMCATS on the board scoring the first goal in the shootout. It would be Megan Tegethoff  to hold down the fort in net for the AMCATS. Tegethoff would keep the Trailblazers off the board the entire shootout and Bleaney goal would be the winner for the AMCATS, and the only goal scored in the shootout. The game would end with the AMCATS taking home the shootout win.
