Volleyball Splits Matches at RIC Tri-Meet

WESTFIELD, Mass. –   Westfield State volleyball split a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday, defeating Mass Maritime 3-0, and falling to Rhode Island College 3-2 in a tri-match at the Murray Center in Providence, R.I.

Westfield powered their way past Mass Maritime with big games from the Nihill twins, as Emma registered 11 kills without a single hitting error, and Hanna added 10 more kills and 14 digs as Westfield won 25-22, 25-21, and 25-16.   Logan Sullivan dished out 28 assists for the Owls and Lizi Buron had 15 digs.  

The match was a designated non-conference matchup.  The Owls and Buccaneers will tangle again in conference play in Westfield next Saturday.

In the nightcap, RIC rallied from a 2-set deficit to win 18-25, 23-25, 26-24, 25-20, and 15-12.

Kills were abundant for the Owls as Shawna Crowley knocked down 16 to lead four Owls in double figures. Bridgette McAndrews added 12, and Julia Bartiet and Ashley Crowley each had 11.

Julia Dangel-Garcia dished out 28 assists, while Mogan Dority added 26.

Amelia Murphy's 26 kills for the Anchorwomen proved to be the difference in the match.

Westfield State is now 10-11 overall this season.  Westfield has two home matches remaining this season, facing Bay Path on Thursday, and then Mass Maritime on Saturday at the Woodward Center.
